About dog boarding, shelters and hotels for dogs

DOG BOARDING

Dog boarding is the place where dogs are housed for a fee for a set amount of time. While boarding, dogs are fed, taken out for walk, play and exercise, taken well care of to keep them happy, healthy and safe.

There are different types of pet boarding’s depending on the pet’s habitat:-
·       Pets habituated to stay in crate can be kept in boarding with crate where they will feel safer and secure while away from home.
·       Pets who are not accustomed in crate may feel like jail to stay in there. They are kept in large communal rooms where animals can interact with each other and socialize. But these types of rooms should be under skilled custody to ensure safety of each dog.
·       Another way of boarding is to leave the pet with veterinarian. They keep the pets more happy and stress-free. This is the best option for the dogs having health condition and is elderly.
·       Some boarding keeps the pets in separate rooms completed with TV and furniture giving an effect of the living room at their home.
·       In present days, in some places there are also home boarding for dogs where the furry guest gets a host family to stay in a vacation with.

But before we put our puppy into a boarding, we should know and ensure all the following details about the boarding:-
1.       The environment is neat, clean, organized and odor free.
2.       They should allow the pets to let out as long as they are used to.
3.       They should feed the dog with proper diet.
4.       Dogs should be allowed to interact with other dogs provided that they are under a proper expert supervision.
5.       There should be 24x7 accesses to veterinary hospitals in case of injuries or any kind of sickness of our furry friend.

There are several ways to make sure that our spoilt pooch gets all that care, love and attention that he deserves when his owner is out for a business or vacation. Replicating his day-to-day activities in the boarding, bringing all his favorite toys along with him and giving him a one-on-one attention can make him feel relaxed and more like home.
Leaving our all-day companion with a friend or a relative may seem to be a better option for us but it is not perfect for our pup’s happiness. It may get confused, frightened and feel stressed with our absence and presence of someone they are anonymous to. This way of keeping our dog can only be of some help if that person is a dog owner and is well accustomed to the moods and behavior of dogs.

Conclusion: - Dog boarding have changed a lot since the days when we have to leave our dogs in a cage, where they felt more like jail. Now-a-days most pet boarding offer a gamut of services like feeding them special treats and meals. Taking them for exercise and swimming etc. Although most people get worried about the stress imposed upon their pet due the unfamiliarity and crowded environment, most boarding kennels specially work to reduce stress.

DOG SHELTERS

Dog shelter is a facility where lost and abandoned dogs are kept temporarily till they are claimed by their owners or are adopted by someone.
These dog shelter or more precisely animal shelters are the modified versions of the dog pounds, a term which had its origin on the legal custody of agricultural communities where lost cattle were kept until they were taken back by their owners.
The main motive of this modern dog shelter is to provide a safe, healthy and caring environment to the dogs unless they are reclaimed.
Types of dog shelters:
   1.      There are the municipal centers known as ‘the pounds’ which are run by government officials under the law enforcement department of the area and have government control officials. These centers generally take in all stray and owner-surrenders and hence are over-full and have to euthanize in order to comply with city ordinance and accommodate more pets.
   2.      There are some animal rescue groups which are mainly breed or species specific. These are generally fundraising and government grant organizations and hence are purely non-profitable organizations. They do not euthanize dogs unless it is health factor.
   3.      Finally there are animal sanctuaries for homeless dogs. These are large facilities and plot of land that refuges dogs for the rest of their life i.e. for the animals that are not up for adaptation.  These are all volunteer organizations run by fundraising and public grants. Here too Euthanasia is generally used for health reasons only.
Conclusion: Dog shelter or animal center is an essential part of the community. Not only do they serve the welfare needs of the lost, abandoned, abused and unwanted dogs of our society but also provide other services such as animal welfare, pet-care education, affordable veterinary services etc. They reduce the impact of unattended dogs in locality by reducing the number of stray animals.
